The term “snack” can mean many different things to many different people. To Joe, a snack could mean a quarter pound burger or a large order of French fries. To Cindy, it could simply mean a 100-calorie trail mix snack. However, to many people snacks have become something to avoid.
They have become the nightmares of their everyday lives. Literally.
How can an honest man or woman stay committed to their diet or management of weight when the HORRIBLE VENDING MACHINE MONSTER lurks behind every corner? Since those cruel vending machines are often filled with empty calories and high sodium levels (a.k.a junk food), it is not hard to see why they have been regarded with fear.
But snacks can be more than a bag of salty chips or marshmallow chocolate bar (don’t let their yummy names get you!). Healthy snacks have tons of great benefits that include losing weight, managing weight and providing lasting energy throughout your day.
Don’t let vending machines discourage you from munching.
Lose weight
Though it sounds counterproductive, snacking does help you lose weight. Eating healthy, well-planned snacks during the day helps curb hunger. Therefore, when you reach the big meals of the day, you are less likely to overeat simply because you don’t arrive as hungry.
Manage your weight
When your schedule seems to be thrown into chaos (as mine often does), having nutritious snacks on hand is a comfort. They are like safety nets keeping you on track so your weight doesn’t spiral out of control like your schedule. Plus, they give you the chance to sneak in more vitamins and minerals without much extra thought or work!
Stay energized throughout your day
Healthy snacks (this does not include potato chips, ice cream or fries) are great for sustaining energy. They “fuel” your body and mind and help prepare you for upcoming activities. More importantly, they keep your mind off hunger so you can work productively without being distracted by a rumbling tummy.
As you can see, there are many benefits for snacking healthily. Used correctly they can help curb hunger in between meals, not add more inches to your waistline. Just don’t let vending machines psyche you out from snacking altogether.
Remember, healthy snacks are our friends, not our enemies!
