Crackers with Cheddar and Walnuts

Serves 1

crackers with cheddar and walnuts
Creamy, nutty and oh so yummy little bites

If you like topping your crackers with ham and cheese, then you will love this new combo. Crackers with cheddar and walnuts are bite-sized, tangy, sweet, creamy, nutty…and just plain yummy snacks. I created this recipe using everyday ingredients I had on hand. These cracker bites are fantastic for dinner parties and entertaining your friends. Although, they look and taste expensive (in a good way of course), they are really easy to whip up!

Ingredients

5 sesame crackers (or whatever cracker you have on hand)
5 thin slices sharp cheddar cheese (about the size of the cracker)
2 ½ teaspoons fig spread
2 ½ teaspoons plain low-fat yogurt
5 walnuts, shelled and lightly toasted

Directions

Arrange the crackers next to one another on a serving plate. Top each cracker with a slice of cheddar, ½ teaspoon of fig spread, ½ teaspoon of yogurt and one walnut, in that order.

That’s all there is to it. Enjoy!

Healthy Benefits
Cheddar cheese is an excellent source of protein and calcium, which both work to promote good health. As the saying goes, “calcium helps build strong bones.” Yogurt also contains protein and calcium, but it also has something else…probiotics, or good bacteria. These “good bacteria” live in the digestive tract and help in digestion. Yogurt has also been shown to help prevent osteoporosis. Walnuts are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and fiber. They have been shown to reduce the risk for heart disease and lower “bad” cholesterol.
